What we cover
How hospice differs from home health
- Focus is on comfort and quality of life rather than curative treatment
- Available when a physician certifies a life expectancy of six months or less
- Includes nursing, aide, social worker, and chaplain visits
- Medication, equipment, and supplies related to the illness are typically covered
- Bereavement support for the family for up to 13 months
- Available at home, in assisted living, or in a hospice facility
What to expect
A hospice team will visit within 24 hours of admission. They build a care plan with you, deliver any needed equipment, and provide a 24/7 on-call nurse. Most hospice care is covered in full by Medicare, Medi-Cal, and most private insurers.
